We are committed to being a responsible corporate citizen and a trusted partner to our stakeholders, working together to create a healthier, more sustainable world for future generations.

VCI Guidelines for Responsible Care

  • The safety and protection of people and the environment are of fundamental importance. For this reason, company management must formulate guidelines for responsible action that are based on this overriding principle. In addition, the measures and procedures must be defined with which these guidelines are implemented in operational practice by the company and its employees and regularly checked for new requirements and adapted accordingly if necessary.

  • The companies raise their employees' awareness of safety and the environment. They sharpen their awareness of the potential environmental impact of products or the operation of systems. Through the European Responsible Care Security Code, they commit to increased efforts to provide greater protection against unlawful attacks.
  • The companies in the chemical industry respect the public's need for transparency in connection with products, processes and activities and respond to it constructively.

  • Companies in the chemical industry are constantly improving the safety of their products: in the selection of raw materials, in production, storage, transportation, distribution, use, recycling and disposal. They take health, safety and environmental aspects into account both in the development of new products and production processes and in dialog with customers, processors and users.

  • As part of their product responsibility, companies in the chemical industry provide information on regulations concerning the safe transportation, storage, safe use, recycling and disposal of their products. This applies in particular to customers, processors and users.

  • The companies in the chemical industry continuously expand their knowledge of their products and processes, particularly with regard to possible effects on people and the environment in all phases of the life cycle.
  • Irrespective of economic interests, the companies will restrict the marketing of products or discontinue their production if, according to the results of a scientific risk assessment, this is necessary to protect health and the environment.

  • Companies in the chemical industry operate safe production facilities. However, if risks to health or the environment become apparent, the companies will immediately initiate the necessary measures, work closely with the authorities and inform the public.

  • The chemical industry actively contributes its knowledge and experience to the development of practical and effective laws, regulations, norms and standards in order to ensure the sustainable protection of people and the environment.

  • Companies in the chemical industry engage in and promote dialog with their stakeholders.

  • The companies in the chemical industry support the national Responsible Care program. To fulfill its requirements, they provide sufficient resources for implementation within the company.
